We came as ESL students, we went to school for 6 months and now we are working and deciding what our next step should be. I have NO IDEA of what I want to do my life, at all...

Español: ¡Feliz Año Nuevo mis queridos viajeros! Hace 7 meses nos mudamos a Vancouver, Canadá. Y déjenme decirles, que ha sido una experiencia interesante. Vinimos como estudiantes de inglés, estuvimos en la escuela por 6 meses y ahora estamos trabajando y decidiendo qué vamos a hacer con nuestras vidas, porque la verdad es que no tengo ni la más remota idea de qué quiero hacer...

Our last day in Australia

English: Our last day in Australia... We had mixed feelings, too many options and we had no idea what to do. We wanted to go the Blue Mountains, to Manly and we wanted to take pictures of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. After dicussing our options, we decided to go to Manly and honestly, I have zero regrets. It was a sunny and warm day, and it was amazing.

Español: Nuestro último día en Australia... Teníamos sentimientos encontrados, demasiadas opciones y no sabíamos qué hacer. Queríamos ir a Blue Mountains, queríamos ir a Manly y queríamos tomar fotos del Opera House y del Harbour Bridge. Al final, decidimos ir a Manly y la verdad, es que no nos arrepentimos ni un segundo. El día estaba espectacular y la verdad, es que si hubiésemos sabido, nos hubiésemos puesto el traje de baño y hubiésemos pasado todo el día echados en la playa.

The beginning of the end: Sydney

English: 11 hours was the time we took to get from Byron Bay to Sydney, that day the only thing we did was DRIVE. We only stopped to take a picture at The Big Banana.
FYI: There are all sort of big things in Australia, like really really big. Mushroom, bananas, koala, penguin, you name it, and there's a big thing somewhere and The Big Banana is really well known.

Español:11 horas fue lo que manejamos de Byron Bay a Sydney, ese día lo único que hicimos fue manejar. En el camino paramos como 5 min a tomarnos una foto en The Big Banana.

Culturizando: Hay todo tipo de cosas gigantes en Australia. Hongo, manzana, bananas, koala, pingüino, en fin, cualquier cosa que se puedan imaginar y bueno The Big Banana es una de las más conocidas.

Byron Bay

English: Byron Bay is really close to Brisbane, about 2 hours, so we got there at noon. Here we stayed at The Arts Factory. You can park your camper and sleep on it, it only costs you around AUD 5 per person, per night and they let you use everything (bathroom, kitchen, pool... you name it), besides that they have a gazillion activities during the day.

Español: Byron Bay queda muy cerca de Brisbane, alrededor de 2 horas, así que como al medio día ya estábamos en The Arts Factory. Aquí puedes parar tu camper y dormir dentro de ella y te cobran AUD 5 por persona, por noche y te dejan usar todo lo de hostel (baños, cocina, piscina, etc), además tienen millones de actividades para hacer en el día.

Fraser Island

English: We did our one day tour to Fraser Island with Fraser Explorer Tours. They picked us up at Pippies and after that we took a "ferry" to cross to Fraser. You can also take this tour from Hervey Bay, but the distance from Rainbow Beach is less. We started our day at the Wanggoolba Creek and I don't know what to tell you about this, besides that it's a creek. The tour guide smelled and besides that you couldn't understand a word of what he was saying, so we ignored him.

Español: El tour a Fraser Island lo hicimos con Fraser Explorer Tours. Nos buscaron tempranito en Pippies y de ahí fuimos a agarrar nuestro "ferry" para cruzar hacia Fraser. Desde Hervey Bay también salen estos tours, pero desde el Rainbow Beach la distancia en ferry es menor. Empezamos el día con un camino por Wanggoolba Creek y no les puedo decir nada sobre esto porque el guía -además que olía mal- hablaba para adentro y no se le entendía absolutamente nada de lo que decía, así que nosotros optamos por ignorarlo todo el camino.

On our way to Rainbow Beach

English: On our way to Rainbow Beach we stopped at Bundaberg Rum Distillery. The tour was AUD 25 and at the end they gave you 2 drinks, it was amazing. We tried Fantasy -which was made of rum, fanta and cream. You HAVE to try this, it's a MUST-, Golden Reserve and Bundy. My two drinks were Fantasy hahaha, I wanted to buy a bottle of rum just to make that drink, but first we don't have Fanta here in Venezuela and second I'd rather buy clothes than rum hahaha.

Español: Cuando íbamos camino a Rainbow Beach nos paramos en la destilería de ron de Bundaberg -el ron de Australia-. El tour por la destilería costaba AUD 25 y al final te daban 2 bebidas, fue lo máximo. Probamos una bebida que se Fantasy -que es fanta, ron y crema. Si van TIENEN que probar esta bebida, pero a juro-, Golden Reserve y Bundy. Las dos bebidas que elegí fueron Fantasy jajaja, hasta me quería comprar una botella para traérmela, pero primero aquí en Venezuela no tenemos Fanta -aunque tenemos una muy parecida que se llama Frescolita- y segundo prefiero comprarme ropa antes que ron.

Are we there yet? Rockhampton & 1770

English: We started our way to 1770, or at least we thought that we were going to get there on time, because according to our investigation it was going to take us from 7 to 10 hours from Airlie Beach to 1770. When we were halfway there, we had to take a detour because there was an accident.We had to guess where we were going, because the GPS kept telling us to go back to the highway we were on. It took us like forever to get to Rockhampton. The only good thing about that detour was the amazing sunset we saw...

Español: Empezamos nuestro camino hacia 1770, o por lo menos nosotros creíamos que íbamos a llegar, porque según lo que habíamos leído de Airlie Beach a 1770 eran alrededor de 7 a 10 horas de camino, pero no fue así. Cuando estábamos como a la mitad del camino, en no se qué lugar, avisaban por todos lados que había un accidente y teníamos que tomar un desvío.Casi que tuvimos que adivinar hacia dónde íbamos porque el GPS no reconocía donde estábamos y lo que hacía era decirnos que nos devolviéramos a la autopista donde estábamos antes. Lo único bueno de ese desvío fue el hermoso atardecer que vimos...

English: This was one of the tours we booked at Wicked Travel and let me tell you... I could've spent that money in something else. Not that it was terrible, but I think it could've been better.

Español: Este fue uno de los tour que pagamos en Wicked en Sydney y déjenme decirles, que pude haber gastado mejor este dinero... No es que el tour haya sido malo, ni nada por el estilo, pero creo que pudo haber sido mejor.

The Great Ocean Road & off to Cairns

English: I solemnly swear -that I`m up to no good- that this is the last you'll read about Melbourne. There's just one thing we needed to see while in Victoria: The Great Ocean Road, so we booked our one day tour with Wildlife Tours. Matteo -one of the guys we met at Uluru- was at Melbourne so we spend our days with him. We walked a lot and we took him to Cruzao Arepa Bar, a place where they sell arepas. Yes, arepas in Australia, he loved them.

FYI: The arepas are a typical venezuelan dish and it's like a fat tortilla, it's made out of ground corn dough and you can cook it in a pan and you can fill it with whatever you like, really WHATEVER. From ham, eggs, cheese, chicken, beef to QUAIL EGGS -really bizarre, huh?-.

Español: Sí, más Melbourne, les prometo que este es el último post. Solo nos quedaba una cosa por hacer en Melbourne -más bien en Victoria-: ir al Great Ocean Road, así que lo primero que hicimos al llegar de Wilsons Prom fue reservar el tour con Wildlife Tours. Reservamos el tour para unos días después, entonces aprovechamos los pocos días que nos quedaban en Melbourne. Para esos días, Matteo -el que conocimos en Uluru- también estaba ahí así que estuvimos con él, básicamente todo el tiempo. Hicimos varios walking tour, de los folletos que habíamos tomado el primer día en el visitor centre de Federation Square. Además llevamos a Matteo a comer AREPAS -sí, arepas en Australia-. Déjenme decirles que, las amó.

Culturizando: Para los que no sepan, la arepa es un plato típico venezolano y es como una tortilla gordita, está hecha de harina de maíz que se cocina en un sartén o budare o básicamente cualquier cosa plana que aguante fuego y se puede rellenar con LO QUE SEA, en serio, lo que sea. Desde jamón y queso, pollo, carne, hasta HUEVOS DE CODORNIZ -creo que es uno de los rellenos más bizarros que se me ocurre ahorita-.

Pre-birthday Melbourne

English: After the chaos we went through -I had to post and ramble about it- the days that followed were more relaxed. So, I'm gonna sum up what we did the days before my birthday.

We went to Emerald Lake Park because we wanted to have an aussie style bbq. On our way we stopped by the Albert Park, where Melbourne's Grand Prix Circuit is. It's amazing, plus it was sunny and the sky was cloudless, just amazing.

Español: Después de nuestro caótico día anterior -tenía que dedicarle un post completo a ese día- estos días siguientes fueron un poco más relajados. Así que voy a resumir todo lo que hicimos en Melbourne antes de mi cumpleaños.

Fuimos al Emerald Lake Park porque queríamos hacer una parrilla -aussie style-. El camino fue un poco largo, no voy a mentir, pero valió la pena. Antes de ir al Emerald Lake, fuimos al Albert Park, donde está el circuito de Grand Prix de Melbourne. Es espectacular, además el día estaba HERMOSO y el poco tiempo que estuvimos ahí lo disfrutamos demasiado.

Melbourne day 3... Or the day that we got lost

English: So, that day we decided to go to the Rose Street Artists' Market, that's located at Rose Street of Fitzroy -the suburb- and why am I telling you this? Because we got lost for this little detail. We got to Federation Square because we wanted to do something before we went to the market, but we decided not to -I don't even remember what it was-. The thing is that we took the tram to where we thought it was the market, Fitzroy STREET. We were sure that that was the right way, oh boy, we were so wrong.

Español: Así que ese día decidimos ir al Rose Street Artists' Market, que queda en la calle Rose delsuburbio Fitzroy ¿por qué les digo esto? Bueno, porque por no estar pendiente de esos pequeños detalles nos perdimos. Resulta que ese día llegamos a Federation Square porque queríamos hacer otra cosa antes de ir al mercadito pero al final decidimos no hacerlo -ni siquiera recuerdo qué era lo que íbamos a hacer-. El punto es que tomamos el tram hasta dónde nosotros creíamos que estaba el mercadito, Fitzroy STREET. Íbamos sentaditos en el tram, confiadísimos que lo estábamos haciendo todo súper bien.

Hello, Melbourne

English: So, a lot's been going on in my life right now and I couldn't find inspiration to write this post until now -I'm a lousy blogger, I know-. That been said, I'm gonna start with what you guys are interested in... So, Melbourne... What did we do in the coldest city of Australia? We got there at night, so the first day we didn't do much. The first actual day, we went to the Visitor Centre that's at Federation Square to pick up some brochures and maps.

Español: Así que muchas cosas están pasando en mi vida ahora y no había encontrado inspiración para escribir este post, hasta ahora -soy la peor blogger del mundo, lo se-. Dicho eso, empezaré a hablar de lo que de verdad les interesa a ustedes... ¡Melbourne! ¿Qué hicimos en la ciudad más fría de Australia? Llegamos en la noche así que el primer día no hicimos nada. El primer día de verdad, fuimos al Visitor Centre que está en Federation Square para agarrar algunos folletos y mapas.

The AWESOME tour... (Kata Tjuta & Uluru)

English: We got up super early, pick up the stuff of the camping site and went to another place to take a shower -we really needed that, LOL-. After we took a shower, we went on a guided walk through the Valley of the Winds in Kata Tjuta -pronounced Kata Joota-, where Fitzy explained us a bunch of awesome stuff. It was really educative and relaxing -even though we walked a lot-.

Español: Al día siguiente nos levantamos temprano, recogimos el campamento y fuimos a otro lugar para bañarnos -realmente, lo necesitábamos jajaja-. Después de bañarnos, fuimos a dar un paseo guiado por el Valle de Los Vientos (Valley of the Winds) en Kata Tjuta -que se pronuncia Kata Yuta-, donde Fitzy nos explicó un sin fin de cosas impresionantes. Fue bastante educativo y relajante -aunque caminamos muchísimo-.

The AWESOME tour… (Kings Canyon)

English: Everything was going smoothly until now, so it was just a matter of time for something to go wrong -Murphy's always with us-. We got up early to take our flight to Alice Springs, but that didn't happen because we got late to the airport and we lost the flight… Since it was a week day and the flights weren't full, they managed to put us on the next flight, we didn't had to pay anything but probably our bags wouldn't make it because the conection time was really short. We almost had a heart attack because we had already booked the tour for the next day. Even so, we got on the plane to Alice Springs and beg for our bags to get there with us.

Español: Todo había sido muy perfecto hasta ahora, así que algo tenía que salir mal -Murphy nunca nos deja solos-. Nos levantamos temprano para tomar nuestro vuelo a Alice Springs, cosa que no pasó porque llegamos tarde y lo perdimos… Menos mal que era día de semana y los vuelos no estaban full, así que nos lograron meter en el próximo vuelo a Alice Springs, no tuvimos que pagar nada de dinero pero corríamos con la suerte de que nuestros bolsos no llegaran porque el tiempo de conexión era muy corto. Cuando nos dijeron eso, casi nos da un infarto porque ya habíamos reservado el tour para el día siguiente. Pero bueno, igual nos montamos en el avión y nos fuimos a Alice Springs, rogando durante todo el vuelo que nuestros bolsos llegaran.

So... Sydney

English: So, we were in Sydney just a couple of a days because we needed some rest and to get rid of the jet lag. We just stayed there for a couple of days, resting, planning and checking out what was going to be our next move. We decided to go after the whole trip, because we want to enjoy a more friendly weather -we are from the Caribbean, so we're used to pretty warm temperatures all year round. We're not used to 12 ºC temperatures-.

We tried not to think about the weather and we went out, we were looking for a supermarket so we made our way up to Kings Cross where we found Harris Farm -by that time we didn't know about Coles or Woolworths-. After buying what we needed for lunch, we just wandered around Kings Cross, where we found that really cute dandelion like fountain: El Alamein Fountain.

We were trying to find a place where we could a ticket for Alice Springs, because we wanted to go to Uluru (Ayers Rock). So on our way back to Meg's apartment we found a place that kind of saved our lifes -at least for that time-: Wicked Travel.

What's Wicked Travel? Well, it's like a travel agency for backpackers. There you can find every tour that's sold in Ausralia. From Uluru, to Withsundays… Almost anything you like. 

That being said, we entered the little place they have in Kings Cross and we saw everything they offered. We just wanted to buy the tour for Uluru and get out of there to look for our ticket to Alice Springs. That didn't happen… We stayed there a couple of hours and we ended up buying, in addition to the Uluru tour, a dice package for Cairns and another one for Cape Tribulation -we would regret that purchase, I'll tell you more about it later-.

Once we paid, we got out of there, bought our ticket to Alice Springs, went back to Meg's apartment and got ready for the next day…

Uluru, here we go!

Español: Así que estuvimos en Sydney como por 4 días porque necesitábamos descansar y deshacernos del jet lag. Además, necesitábamos saber cuál sería nuestro próximo movimiento porque habíamos decidido dejar Sydney para el final del viaje para disfrutar un poco más por el clima -cuando llegamos la temperatura estaba alrededor de los 12 ºC-.

Tratamos de no pensar en la temperatura -que para nosotros era lo más horrible del mundo, estamos acostumbrados a temperaturas bastantes calientes durante todo el año- y salimos a buscar un supermercado en Kings Cross y encontramos Harris Farm -para ese momento no sabíamos que existía Coles y Woolworths-. Después de comprar las cosas que necesitábamos para hacer el almuerzo, paseamos un rato por Kings Cross donde encontramos la fuente de la foto que ven arriba: El Alamein Fountain.

Estábamos buscando un lugar donde pudiésemos comprar un pasaje a Alice Springs, ya que queríamos a Uluru (Ayers Rock). Así que cuando regresábamos al apartamento de Meg encontramos un lugar que nos salvó la vida -o algo así-: Wicked Travel.

¿Qué es Wicked Travel? Es como una agencia de turismo para mochileros. Ahí puedes encontrar cualquier tour que se puedan imaginar que venden en Australia. 

Dicho eso, pues entramos al pequeño local que tienen en Kings Cross y empezamos a ver todo lo que ofrecían. Sinceramente, lo único que nos interesaba era comprar el tour de Uluru e irnos a buscar el pasaje a Alice Springs. Eso no pasó… Terminamos comprando, además del tour para Uluru, un paquete de buceo en Cairns y otro para Cape Tribulation -una compra de la que nos arrepentimos, pero les contaré de eso más adelante-.

Una vez que pagamos, salimos de ahí y fuimos a comprar el pasaje a Alice Springs, regresamos al apartamento de Meg y nos preparamos para el día siguiente…

¡Uluru, aquí vamos!

Where to? AUSTRALIA

English: After 3 flights, almost 24 hours between airports and planes, there we were... Standing, without knowing where to go, at Sydney's airport. The first thing we did was call Meg, a really kind couchsurfer. She told us everythin we needed to know to get to her place.

First impression of Australia: everything is sooo expensive. We came from NYC, where we paid around USD 30 for transport for a week... And we got to a place where we had to pay around AUD 17 (USD 18) to go from one place to another, and it wasn't a round trip.

After we thought the machine was broken -for us, it was impossible that we had to pay that amount for just one trip- we went to the teller where he confirmed that it was the right price to go to Kings Cross. We paid the ticket and headed that way.

Second impression: Aussies are really nice and kind people. We were lost, our face betrayed us... So a really kind aussie stopped and offered some help and pointed the direction we needed to go. WE got to Meg's apartment and we went out to check around and have some breakfast. First thing we saw was Woolloomooloo's sign -the place where we were staying-.

Español: Después de 3 aviones, casi 24 horas entre aeropuertos y aviones, y con un sueño que no nos dejaba vivir, ahí estábamos... Parados, sin saber a dónde ir, en el aeropuerto de Sydney. Lo primero que hicimos fue comprar una línea de teléfono para llamar a Meg, una couchsurfer demasiado amable. Ella nos dijo todo lo que teníamos que saber para llegar a su casa.

La primera impresión que tuvimos de Australia es que TODO es inmensamente caro. En primer lugar, veníamos de NYC, un lugar donde pagamos alrededor de USD 30 por el transporte de toda una semana... Y ahora llegábamos a un lugar en el que teníamos que pagar aproximadamente AUD 17 (USD 18) por ir de un lugar a otro y era un boleta solo de ida. 

Nada, después de que pensáramos que la máquina se había equivocado -para nosotros era imposible tener que pagar eso por un trayecto- fuimos a la taquilla donde nos confirmaron que ese era el precio que teníamos que pagar por ir a Kings Cross. Pagamos el ticket y salimos para allá. 

La segunda impresión que tuvimos de Australia es que la gente es super amable. Hubo un momento, en el que teníamos que hacer una transferencia, que nuestra cara de perdidos nos delató. Así que un aussie, muy amable -era un señor normal que iba a su trabajo- nos paró y nos preguntó que para dónde íbamos. Le dijimos y el señor muy amablemente nos señaló la dirección en la que debíamos ir.

Llegamos al apartamento de Meg y salimos a desayunar y a ver qué había cerca.  Lo primero que vimos fueron los signos que describen lo que significa Woolloomooloo -el lugar donde estábamos-.

English: After we had breakfast we went back to where we were staying and try to stay awake as long as we could... We didn't make it, we went to bed at 4.00 PM, can you believe it? We were so tired, and the jetlag was awfull. So much for our first day at Sydney, right?

Español: Después de desayunar, regresamos a donde nos estábamos quedando y tratamos de quedarnos despiertos el mayor tiempo posible... Last day @ NYC (day 7)

English: As I've told you in previous posts, on our last day in NYC we just went on a shopping spree. Before we left Caracas, we had a mission in NYC: go to Adorama & Leisure Pro. But I'm not going to talk about what a I bought, beacuse it makes no sense... This is a travel blog, not a haul or a shopping blog, but of course if you want to see a haul of what I bought you can leave it in the comments. What I'm going to talk about in this post is a place that's near the hostel we were staying and it's called 5 Pointz.

Español: Como les dije en los posts anteriores, el último día en NYC lo que hicimos fue comprar. Desde antes de salir de Caracas, teníamos una misión en NYC: ir a Adorama y a Leisure Pro. Pero no les voy a hablar de las compras que hice porque no tiene ningún sentido... Esto es un blog de viajes, no uno donde voy a hacer hauls o uno de compras, pero si quieren ver un haul de lo que compré déjenlo en los comentarios. De lo que sí les voy a hablar es de un lugar que queda cerca del hostel que se llama 5 Pointz.

Imagine all the people... (NYC day 5)

English: ... Living life in peace... Since we love The Beatles we just had to go to the Dakota and Strawberry Fields at Central Park -the John Lennon memorial-. So that was the first thing we did when we left the hostel. You can't get into the Dakota, it's not a museum or anything like it, just a bunch of over priced apartments -honestly, the thought of bumping into Lennon ghost crepes me out. That's why I wouldn't live there-. Strawberry Fields, on the other hand, it's indescribable. You get there and everybody is whispering, it's like the place was mourning... Even so, it's not weird... It's just indescribable.

Español: ... Living life in peace... Como buenos fans de The Beatles que somos teníamos que ir al Dakota y al Strawberry Fields en Central Park -el monumento en memoria de John Lennon-. Así que eso fue lo primero que hicimos al salir del hostel. Al Dakota no te dejan entrar, no es museo ni nada por el estilo, solo apartamentos muy sobre preciados -sinceramente, no me gustaría vivir ahí. La idea que se me aparezca el fantasma de Lennon en la noche me asusta jajaja-. Strawberry Fields por otro lado es indescriptible. Llegas ahí y todo el mundo está susurrando, es como si ese lugar estuviera de luto eternamente... Aún así, no es raro... Es indescriptible y ya.

The Empire State Building... and more (NYC day 4)

English: If you thought the day before we did a lot of stuff, you're about to be amazed because this day we did twice as much. We started with style, at the observation deck that;s in the 86th floor of the Empire State Building -where once again we used the NYCPass to ay for the tickets- We stayed there a while enjoying the views of Manhattan.

Español: Si creían que los días anteriores hicimos muchas cosas, este día hicimos el doble. Empezamos el día por todo lo alto, en la plataforma de observación del piso 86 Empire State Building -una vez más, usamos el NYCPass para pagar los tickets-. Ahí estuvimos un buen rato disfrutando las vistas de Manhattan.

The Met & Madame Tussauds (NYC day 3)

English: Even though the day before was like a marathon for us, we woke up really early and we went to The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met). I don't know what to say about this museum to describe  how mazing it is. For starters, when you pay the ticket (once again, we used the NYCPass) they give you a sort of pin that you put in your shirt, bag, camera strap, audio guide strap, anywhere where the staff can see it, so you can walk freely around the museum.

Español: A pesar de lo maratónico que había sido el día anterior, nos levantamos tempranito y fuimos a The Metropolitan Museum of Art (El Met). No se qué decir de este museo que le haga justicia a lo brutal que es. Para empezar, cuando pagas el ticket (una vez más, nosotros hicimos uso del NYCPass) te dan como una especie de botoncito que lo pones en la camisa, mochila, strap de la cámara, strap del audio guía, en cualquier lugar que las personas que trabajan allí lo puedan ver para poder caminar libremente por el museo.
